Our latest demo van was built to showcase and photograph new products launching over the next few months. Our friends over at Monster Energy tastefully specced a fleet of these twin sliding-door, black-on-black T6.1s for their team, and we had the opportunity to 'relieve' them of a few of the better examples in the fleet. We built a few of these for other brands and decided to keep this one for ourselves.
The Van
It's been privately inspected and graded, achieving a NAMA Grade 1 certificate – the highest possible after a 44-point inspection assessing both its health and appearance.
It's covered 118,000 miles from new and, while it doesn't have a vast history file, these vehicles were supplied with a three-year warranty and it's had everything it needed within that period in terms of servicing and maintenance.
The van has covered fewer than 15 miles since the conversion and the fitting of all the new parts, wheels and accessories. Combined with its very rare NAMA Grade 1 rating, it genuinely looks and feels brand new.
These T6.1s are the last of the German-built Transporter story and, as such, have held—and should continue to hold—their value incredibly well.
This particularly tasteful example features the 110bhp engine and manual drivetrain, a combination that's been lauded for its reliability and impressive fuel economy. While it's not going to set the world on fire performance-wise, it's still more than capable enough to have fun with in the corners, and perfectly suited to daily driving.
It has air conditioning, Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a leather flat-bottom steering wheel, a driver's captain's chair with armrests, and an incredibly fresh, 'new' feel throughout.
The Conversion
It's been converted with our VC1 layout. Birch over HEX ply gives the interior a light yet functional balance of hard-wearing and beautiful materials that feel more Scandinavian apartment than 'blokey' van conversion.
The kitchen unit is designed to accept a Dometic fridge and two Dometic water jugs with their matching faucet. Paired with the S+S gas stove and the ability to power the fridge via a DJI Power Bank, it's a tried-and-tested off-grid setup that we genuinely believe is the best way to achieve reliable, modular systems without complicated internal wiring or plumbing looms.
It's perfect for chilling in and getting some work done while 'out of office' and with the bench being able to articulate into a double bed it's ideal for longer weekends away...
It's been insulated and sound-deadened with DODOMAT and lined with birch-ply panels, allowing modular accessory fitment with spacing to accept IKEA Skogafloss accessories.
