It's time to find the right home for this very purposeful van.
The term rare is used often, usually it's 'rare' because it's bad and few were made, this version of rare is the real deal, rare because it was very expensive, few were made and now they're sought after for all the right reasons.
This transporter has the very rare 4motion drivetrain with the uber rare diff-lock feature. The twin sliding doors along with tailgate are again, right-reason-rare making this a legitimately purposeful and quite a special vehicle that has all the characteristics to be an increasing asset in the future.
The van is a 2008 SWB Transporter with the 2.5L 6 speed transmission. It's just had a full birthday recently including all the expensive bits like a new Propshaft, Dual mass flywheel, clutch and a full service. It's current mileage reads 185k, it still feels very fresh to drive, sounds great, pulls strongly and with the very large service (with invoices) just carried out, it shouldn't need anything major for another 80k miles. These 5 cylinder engines, if maintained well can easily head past 400k.
This one came to us via a customer and we figured it's a rare opportunity to get a good 4motion, and we could build a team family beach hauler with all the parts accumulated over the years here. The van is blue, and was a bit too blue, so we made the call to wrap it. The project began to spiral as we had many newer T6.1 bits here and before long, it had a full t6.1 front end, and tailgate which made sense to fit if I was wrapping it, then it's had the addition of ABS arch trims, roof bar set along with Aero pads and a Multirail for awnings etc etc...
The van has a Kombi bench in the back so it seats 6, the rear bench folds and the S+S Kombi conversion allows a full bed when the seats folded, ideal for weekends away.
The van, while very functional, would probably suit someone handy who is willing to get stuck in with getting it buttoned up while in use. Using the term mongrel isn't really fair, but the front end, and tailgate need some alignment to make perfect. The mechanical side is very sorted with the previous owners using it as their weapon to get to the Alps twice a year.
The tailgate isn't plugged in yet either and needs some love to be fully functional.
To summerise, a very rare and purposeful vehicle with enough mod cons (aircon, parking sensors, cruise control) to be used for trips further afield, and with some time (probably less than a day) would make for an excellent multipurpose wagon.
